Getting ashore

Mystery Island (Inyeug) is a small coral island off Efate. Ships anchor offshore and passengers are brought ashore by tender or pier, depending on the ship. The island has a small village area and craft stalls.

Watch-outs

The island is small and has few facilities. Bring water, sun protection and cash in vatu. Stallholders may ask you to buy, and a polite no is enough.

The beach and the reef

The beaches are white sand with clear water, and snorkelling over the reef is the main activity. Take care in the water, as currents can be strong at the edges.

The village

Local people sell crafts, food and drinks from stalls and short-term huts. The village is a good place to talk to the islanders and see how they live.

Efate and Port Vila

Larger trips to Port Vila on Efate are possible by boat or flight, but are not usually part of a short island call.

Food & shopping

Local food includes fresh fish, coconut and taro. Stalls sell crafts and shell jewellery.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the vatu. Cash is needed on the island, as card payments are rare. Mobile signal is limited.

Accessibility & mobility

The tender or pier and the sand paths are hard for anyone with limited mobility. Ask the ship about accessible transport and boats.
