Getting ashore
Ships dock at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center, on the Elizabeth River in downtown Norfolk. It sits beside Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin.
Watch-outs
Norfolk is a naval city, and the harbour is busy with navy traffic. Summer is hot and humid. Traffic can be heavy on the bridges.
Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin
Nauticus is the maritime science and history centre. The Battleship Wisconsin is a museum ship with tours of her decks and guns. Allow a half day for both.
Waterside and the harbour
The Waterside district has restaurants, shops and the harbour views. It is a short walk from the cruise centre.
Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach is about 30 minutes away, with a long boardwalk, surf and seafood restaurants.
Colonial Williamsburg
Colonial Williamsburg is about an hour away, a living history town. Tours run from the port.
Food & shopping
Virginia food includes crab cakes, Smithfield ham and Chesapeake oysters. Restaurants in Waterside and the Ghent district are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the US dollar. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile signal is good downtown.
Accessibility & mobility
The terminal and Waterside are flat and step-accessible. The battleship has steep steps and narrow passages, so check access before you visit. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
