Getting ashore
Ships dock at the Port of New Orleans cruise terminals on the river. The walk from the ship to the terminal exit is short. The French Quarter is a short ride or a longer walk away.
Watch-outs
The riverfront can be hot and open. The first taxi queue may be for airport runs. Walk further for a short ride into the Quarter. Cobbles and uneven streets are hard on the feet. Agree the fare before the car moves.
Getting into the French Quarter
The French Quarter is about 1–2 miles from the terminals. A taxi is about $10–15. The streetcar runs nearby. Walking is possible but long and in the sun. On the way back, name the cruise terminal.
Taxis & ride apps
Taxis and Uber/Lyft wait outside the terminals. A ride into the Quarter is about $10–15. Agree the price or check the app before you leave. The rank is at the terminal exit.
What to do nearby
The French Quarter has Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and the riverfront. The streetcar reaches more of the city. Shops and restaurants sit a short ride from the port.
Going further
The Garden District and further sites take longer. Book a return in advance. Most passengers stay in the Quarter or take the streetcar.
Food & shopping
The Quarter has restaurants, beignets, and shops. Cards are widely accepted. Prices are about standard US tourist rates. Tipping is expected.
Opening times & connectivity
Shops open around 10. Many stay open later. Mobile signal is good. Some spots offer free Wi-Fi. Use the currency link for US dollars.
Accessibility & mobility
Terminals are ADA-compliant with climate-controlled gangways and elevators. Streetcars and sidewalks vary. Request assistance from the ship or terminal if needed for mobility.
