Getting ashore
Ships dock at PortMiami on Dodge Island. The terminal is not in the city centre. A taxi or shuttle takes you across the causeway. Check your pier number. Walking into Miami is not realistic.
Watch-outs
The port sits on an island. Traffic builds when several ships leave. Do not try to walk the causeway. Confirm the terminal for any return pickup. Summer heat is strong.
Getting into Miami
Taxis and rideshares wait at the terminal. Downtown is a short ride. South Beach takes longer. Use the official stand. Public buses are limited from the port.
Taxis & ride apps
Official taxis queue outside the terminal. Uber and Lyft operate. Give the exact terminal number. The queue is right after you exit. Tell the driver the destination clearly.
What to do nearby
Bayside Marketplace is in downtown. You need a short ride first. The area has shops and casual food. Keep the plan tight if your time is limited.
Going further
South Beach is a longer taxi ride. The beach is the main draw. Book a return in advance. Longer trips such as the Everglades need a full day. Watch traffic on the way back.
Food & shopping
Bayside has food courts and shops. Downtown cafés are close once you arrive. Prices are about standard US tourist rates. Cards are widely accepted.
Opening times & connectivity
Shops open around 10. Some close by 6 or 7. Mobile signal is good. Some spots offer free Wi-Fi. Use the currency link for US dollars.
Accessibility & mobility
Ask the ship about the gangway at your own terminal. Walking the PortMiami Bridge is not a step-free plan. Use a taxi from the designated zone if the trolley stop is a long or uneven walk from your door. Metromover platforms have tactile edge warnings; that does not mean every station has a working lift. Book an accessible vehicle before you commit to Vizcaya or the beach.
