Getting ashore
Ships anchor off Lahaina and tender passengers to the harbour. Front Street is a short walk from the landing.
Watch-outs
Lahaina was badly affected by wildfire in 2023. Check the current state of the town, the businesses and the access before you visit, and respect the recovery areas. Parking is limited and traffic is heavy.
Front Street and the old town
Front Street is the historic waterfront, with shops, restaurants and the old whaling-era buildings. The Banyan Tree in Courthouse Square is one of the largest in the state.
Whale watching
Humpback whales visit the waters off Maui from about December to April. Boat tours leave from the harbour, and they keep a legal distance from the whales.
Ka'anapali and the coast
Ka’anapali is a resort beach a short drive north, with Black Rock and the snorkelling reef. The coast road is scenic.
Food & shopping
Hawaiian food includes poke, plate lunches and fresh fish. Restaurants on Front Street and in the harbour are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the US dollar. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile signal is good in town.
Accessibility & mobility
The harbour and Front Street are mostly flat, but the sidewalks can be uneven. Tender landings involve a step. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
