Getting ashore

Ships anchor in Frenchman Bay and tender passengers to the town pier at Bar Harbor. The town centre is a short walk from the landing.

Watch-outs

Tenders can be delayed by fog and wind. Acadia National Park uses timed entry in peak season, so check the current booking rules before you plan a trip.

Bar Harbor

The town is a compact seaside resort with shops, galleries, restaurants and whale-watching boats.

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park covers much of Mount Desert Island, with the Park Loop Road, the lookouts and the carriage roads.

Cadillac Mountain

Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the Atlantic coast of the US, with views over the islands. Reach it by road in season, or by a hike.

Whale watching and the coast

Whale-watching trips leave from the harbour in season, with humpback and minke whales in the bay.

Food & shopping

Maine food includes lobster rolls, clam chowder and blueberry pie. Restaurants on Main Street and the harbour are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the US dollar. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile signal is good in town and patchy in the park.

Accessibility & mobility

The town pier and Main Street are flat. Acadia has paved and unpaved trails, and the carriage roads are level in parts. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
