Getting ashore
Ships berth at Ocean Terminal in Leith, the port of Edinburgh. The city centre is about 25 minutes away, by tram, bus or taxi.
Watch-outs
Edinburgh is hilly and the weather changes quickly. Book Edinburgh Castle in advance in summer. Traffic is heavy at festival times.
Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile
Edinburgh Castle sits on the rock above the city, and the Royal Mile runs down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Leith and the waterfront
Leith has a working harbour, restaurants and the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is open to visitors.
Arthur's Seat and the Old Town
Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano in Holyrood Park, with a walk to the summit and views over the city.
Day trips
The Forth Bridges, St Andrews and the Highlands are all day trips by road or train.
Food & shopping
Scottish food includes haggis, cullen skink and shortbread. Pubs and cafés on the Royal Mile and in Leith are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the pound sterling. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are common.
Accessibility & mobility
Ocean Terminal and Leith are flat. The Old Town and the castle involve steep hills and many steps. The tram and the buses are step-accessible. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
