Getting ashore

Dover’s cruise terminal is about 75 miles from central London. Two main cruise terminals serve ships, and shuttles run into town. Check your ship’s notice for the terminal.

Watch-outs

Dover is a busy ferry port, and traffic around the port is heavy. Allow time for the shuttle and the return. Weather on the coast is changeable.

Dover Castle

Dover Castle is a large medieval fortress on the cliffs, with tunnels used in the Second World War. Allow at least two hours.

White Cliffs

The white chalk cliffs are a short walk or taxi ride from the town, with coastal paths and views across the Channel.

Canterbury and London

Canterbury, with its cathedral, is about 30 minutes by train. London is about 90 minutes by train from Dover, as a long day trip.

Food & shopping

English food includes fish and chips and local ales. The town has pubs and cafés near the harbour.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the pound sterling. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. ATMs are in the town.

Accessibility & mobility

The terminal and the town centre are mostly flat. Dover Castle has steep paths and steps. The cliffs involve steep coastal paths. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
