Getting ashore

Ships dock at Port Rashid. Since 2021 the Dubai Harbour cruise terminal has also been in use, between the Palm View Marina and the Palm Jumeirah. Metered taxis wait outside the terminal.

Watch-outs

The UAE has dress and conduct rules that visitors should follow in public, and alcohol is licensed. Check the current rules before you go. Summer heat is extreme.

Dubai Creek and Al Fahidi

The Creek is the historic waterway, with abra boat crossings, the Al Fahidi historic district and the Dubai Museum in the Al Fahidi Fort.

Downtown and Burj Khalifa

Downtown has the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and the fountain show. Tickets for the tower’s observation decks should be booked in advance.

Palm Jumeirah and beaches

The Palm Jumeirah has beaches, hotels and the Atlantis. Public beaches include Jumeirah Public Beach.

Desert experiences

Desert safaris with dune bashing, camel rides and barbecue dinners are popular, and tours run from the city.

Food & shopping

Emirati food includes machboos, luqaimat and fresh seafood. Old Dubai has the souks for gold, spices and textiles.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the dirham. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile data is excellent.

Accessibility & mobility

The port and the malls are flat and step-accessible. Burj Khalifa and the Creek boats have boarding steps. Desert safaris are rough. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
