Getting ashore

The new cruise terminal is close to the centre of Bodrum, within walking distance of the harbour. Check your ship’s notice for the berth.

Watch-outs

Bodrum is a busy resort, and the harbour is crowded in summer. Haggle politely in the bazaar. Dress modestly for mosques and the castle.

Bodrum Castle

St Peter’s Castle, the Crusader fortress on the promontory, houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The approach to the harbour is dominated by it.

The old harbour and gulets

The harbour is lined with cafés and bars. Traditional wooden gulets sail from here on day cruises along the coast.

Mausoleum and the coast

The site of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is in the town, with a museum nearby. Coastal villages and beaches are reached by boat or dolmuş.

Food & shopping

Turkish food includes meze, grilled fish and baklava. The waterfront restaurants are the easiest choice, and the bazaar has leather, textiles and spices.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Turkish lira. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are common in the centre.

Accessibility & mobility

The terminal and the harbour are flat. The castle has steps and uneven stone. Ask your operator for accessible transport for day cruises.
