## Getting ashore

Most calls use the central pier, though anchoring and tendering are possible, so follow the ship's instructions for each call. Passengers usually walk straight out into the harbour area, and a shuttle is generally unnecessary. The port lies beside the historic harbour and the central shopping streets, and the Red Tower and the Seljuk Shipyard are near the passenger exit. The approach from the shipyard has uneven surfaces and steps. The terminal has an air-conditioned lounge, a duty-free shop, a restaurant, a cafeteria, telephone booths and an ATM, though that information dates from 2024, so check what is open on the day.

## For beach lovers

Damlataş Cave, Cleopatra Beach and the castle cable car are within walking distance of the port, and the cave and beach together take 2.5 to 4 hours. Taxis suit the more distant beaches. The cave is compact. Walking suits the eastern end of Cleopatra Beach, but the shoreline can be steep and the waves strong, so watch the warning flags. Allow time to change before returning to the ship.

## For walkers and architecture fans

Alanya Castle is the headline sight. Its wall is 6.5 km long, with 140 towers and about 400 cisterns, and its doors carry inscriptions. A Seljuk ruler, Alaeddin Kayqubad I, gave the city its name and oversaw the castle, the Red Tower and the Tersane shipyard. The Red Tower, the Seljuk Shipyard and the historic harbour take 1.5 to 2.5 hours and make an easy option. The castle by cable car takes 3 to 4 hours, but the main citadel needs more uphill walking, so a taxi is easier for the highest section. The Roman baths and the Alanya Museum are also on offer, though their hours may have changed. Wear shoes with good grip, and carry water and sun protection, since much of the castle peninsula is exposed.

## For nature and outdoor fans

Boat trips from Alanya Harbour take in the Phosphorescent, Lovers' and Pirates' caves, and range from one hour to a full day. Dim Cave and Dim River are about 11 km from central Alanya and take 4 to 5 hours, best done by taxi with an agreed wait or on a booked excursion. Sapadere Canyon is about 40 km away and suits a long call with reliable round-trip transport. Antalya is generally unsuitable for an ordinary call, because the road distance means about 2.5 hours each way. Allow a larger margin after any out-of-town trip.

## For shoppers

The bazaar is closed to traffic, and its handicraft shops sell leather and suede goods, hand-woven wool and silk rugs, gold and silver jewellery, pottery, copperware and brassware. Haggling is normal in souvenir shops and stalls. Most resorts hold a weekly market for produce, crafts and textiles, and local mini markets sell basic supplies. These descriptions date from 2024, so check opening hours on the day.

## For eaters and drinkers

The restaurants on the waterfront promenade serve traditional local dishes, and the harbour district has cafés and bars. Turkish food has a wide range, from kebabs to meze, the small dishes served in all Turkish restaurants. Meze can be simple, such as cheese with melon, or elaborate, such as stuffed vegetables, and raki, a clear anise-flavoured spirit, is traditionally served with it.

## Getting around and money

Taxis in town have regulated fares and are easy to find, but on long journeys drivers can charge more than the meter reads. Agree the fare in advance or make sure the meter is running. City buses serve the wider resort, but routes and payment methods may change, so check them on arrival. The lower station of the castle cable car is by Damlataş Cave and connects to the Ehmedek area of the castle. Its hours vary, so confirm the return service before you rely on it. The currency is the Turkish lira (TRY). Many shops and restaurants in the coastal resorts and big cities also take euros and US dollars, but take some lira for travel to other parts of the country. Cash machines are common in towns and resorts. Free wireless internet is available at the terminal, though that information dates from 2024. Emergency numbers are 112 for ambulance and 155 for police, and they apply across Turkey.

## Walking guide: the port to Damlataş Cave

Start at the terminal, where the Red Tower and the Seljuk Shipyard are close to the passenger exit. Walk along the historic harbour, which lies beside the port, and then into the bazaar streets, which are closed to traffic. Continue to Damlataş Cave, about 2 km from the port, and then to the eastern end of Cleopatra Beach. Return to the terminal the way you came, and allow at least 60 minutes before the stated all-aboard time. The castle is best reached by cable car or taxi.

## Accessibility & mobility

The shipyard approach has uneven surfaces and steps, and the castle route is steep with stone paving. The cable car reaches part of the castle district, and a taxi is easier for the highest section, according to the Cruisemapper wiki. The sources read do not describe step-free routes, so ask the ship about tendering and gangway arrangements before the call.
