## Getting ashore

Most ships stop at the deep-water cruise terminal at Scarborough, on the southern coast of Tobago. The terminal is a short distance from the town, and taxis and shuttles wait at the gate.

## Watch-outs

Tobago's roads are narrow and winding, and the drive to the beaches can take longer than the map suggests. Agree the fare and the return time with the driver. Carry cash in Trinidad and Tobago dollars for markets and small shops.

## Scarborough

Scarborough is the island's capital. The Fort King George on the hill above the town has views over the coast and the bay. The market is a good place for local food and crafts.

## Beaches and reefs

Store Bay is the best-known beach, with calm water, restaurants and tours to the reef. Pigeon Point, on the north-west coast, is the island's most photographed beach. Snorkelling is good on the reefs off the south-west coast.

## Tobago's rainforest and birds

The Main Ridge Forest Reserve is one of the oldest protected rainforests in the Western Hemisphere. Bird-watching tours go to the forest and to the Little Tobago island, where seabirds nest.

## Food & shopping

Creole food includes callaloo, roti and fresh seafood. Roadside stalls and small cafés offer the best value. Shops in Scarborough are busy on cruise days.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar. US dollars are accepted in some places, and cards are accepted in larger hotels and shops.

## Accessibility & mobility

The terminal and the town are mostly flat, but the roads are steep and the fort involves a climb. Beaches have sand and steps. Ask your tour operator for a vehicle with step access and rest stops for the forest trips.
