## Getting ashore

Ships anchor in Admiralty Bay, and passengers tender ashore to the jetty at Port Elizabeth. The town is a short strip along the waterfront, so there is little to walk to. The tourist information booth is on the jetty, and taxis wait there.

## Watch-outs

Tender landings are wet and can be busy, so keep your bag light and your hands free. Water taxis carry passengers from the jetty to the nearby beaches, at a fare of around $6 each way. Agree the fare and the return time before you board. The island's shops and restaurants are small and can close earlier than expected.

## Port Elizabeth

The waterfront is lined with bars, restaurants and craft shops facing the bay. It is a relaxed place to spend an hour or two. Local boatbuilders are a feature of the island, and the sailing heritage is visible along the shore.

## Beaches and coves

Bequia is ringed with gold-sand beaches and coves. They suit snorkelling, sailing and diving. Water taxis are the simplest way to reach the beaches, and a taxi tour can take in several in an afternoon. Bring water, as there is little shade on the sand.

## Food & shopping

Local food includes fresh fish, roti and rum punch. Small bars and restaurants along the waterfront are the easiest choice. Duty-free shopping is limited, so look for local crafts and spices.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the East Caribbean dollar. US dollars are widely accepted. Cards are accepted in larger places, but cash is needed for water taxis and small shops.

## Accessibility & mobility

The tender landing and the jetty can be hard to reach for anyone with limited mobility, as the boat step and the jetty steps are uneven. Water taxis have a low step, but getting on and off can still be difficult. Ask the ship about tender assistance, and check with your tour operator before booking a beach trip.
