## Getting ashore

Cruise ships berth at [Pier Alfonso XII](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Cartagena+Spain+cruise+pier+Alfonso+XII) in the marina. You walk off onto the waterfront. The old town is a 5-10 minute flat walk. No shuttle is needed. Taxis are right outside.

## Watch-outs

The walk is short and flat. Some streets in the old town are cobbled. The sun can be strong. Take water. The Roman sites have some steps. Agree nothing; taxis are metered.

## Getting into Cartagena

The historic centre is a short walk across the road from the pier. Calle Mayor and the Roman Theatre are under 10 minutes. A local bus is about €1. Taxis are metered. Most people walk.

## Taxis & ride apps

Taxis queue at the terminal and use meters. A short ride is cheap. Uber or similar may operate. For the city, walking is easier. Name the cruise pier for the return.

## What to do nearby

Walk to the Roman Theatre and the old town streets. Plaza del Ayuntamiento is close. The waterfront is flat. Shops and cafes are along Calle Mayor. The walk is short and open.

## Going further

The castle is uphill and needs more time or the lift. Further sites need a taxi. The centre fills most calls.

## Food & shopping

Cafes and shops are in the centre and on Calle Mayor. Tapas are easy. Cards work. Cash euros are useful for small places. Spanish is the language; English works in tourist spots.

## Opening times & connectivity

Shops open usual hours with a midday break. Free Wi-Fi is in cafes. For emergencies call 112. Spanish is the language.

## Accessibility & mobility

The walk from the pier to the centre is short and flat. Some old town streets are cobbled. Ask the ship about the gangway. Taxis are available.
