Getting ashore
Ships dock at the piers in Old San Juan. The walk into the historic centre is short and flat. Some berths are a little further. Check your pier. Taxis queue nearby.
Watch-outs
The old city has cobbles and some hills. The walk is in the sun in places. Confirm the pier for return. Traffic near the port can be busy. Do not leave bags unattended.
Getting into San Juan
From the pier, walk into Old San Juan in about 10 minutes. The streets are narrow. Taxis wait if you prefer a ride. Public transport reaches other parts of the city.
Taxis & ride apps
Taxis queue near the pier exit. Uber operates. Give the exact pier if needed. The queue is outside the terminal. Agree the fare for longer trips.
What to do nearby
The fort and the old streets are a short walk. El Morro is nearby but has steps. Keep the loop inside the old city so the return is easy.
Going further
Condado or the beaches need a taxi. The drive takes 15–20 minutes. Book a return. Longer trips need more time. Check traffic.
Food & shopping
The old city has cafés and shops. Local places serve Puerto Rican food. Prices are about standard tourist levels. Cards are accepted.
Opening times & connectivity
Shops open mid-morning. Some close early. Mobile coverage is good. Free Wi-Fi is in some cafés. Use the currency link for US dollars.
Accessibility & mobility
The port lists wheelchair assistance. Ask for it at your pier rather than assuming the first taxi can take a chair. The walk from Piers 3 and 4 into the old city includes cobbles and hills, and the forts are steps and ramps. A paid fort interior is a poor plan if anyone cannot climb. From the Panamerican piers, book an accessible vehicle before you cross the bay.
