Getting ashore

Ships dock at the Callao cruise terminal about 14 km from central Lima. The terminal has shops and an information desk. Approved taxis wait inside the gates. Do not walk outside the secure area.

Watch-outs

The streets around the docks are not safe for walking. Use only taxis arranged inside the terminal or a ship tour. Traffic into Lima can take 45–90 minutes. Agree the fare and return time before you leave. Street taxis outside are a risk.

Getting into Lima

Take an approved taxi from the terminal to Miraflores or the historic centre. The ride is about an hour depending on traffic. No practical public bus for cruise passengers. Many ships offer a shuttle or tour into the city. Confirm the pickup point for the return.

Taxis & ride apps

Use the taxis inside the terminal. A ride to Miraflores is typically negotiated. Uber and Beat work in Lima but pickup at the port can be restricted. Agree the price in soles or dollars before the car moves. Name the Callao cruise terminal for the return. Hourly hire is common for a city tour.

What to do nearby

There is little to see in Callao itself. Most passengers go straight to Lima. Miraflores has the oceanfront parks, shops and restaurants. The historic centre has the Plaza de Armas, cathedral and colonial buildings. Both are best reached by taxi.

Going further

Pachacamac ruins are south of the city. A taxi or tour covers them in half a day. Machu Picchu needs a flight or long train trip and is not realistic on a normal port day. Stay in Lima unless you have booked a full-day excursion.

Food & shopping

Miraflores has many restaurants and the craft market. The historic centre has cafés around the square. Larger malls accept cards. Cash in soles is useful for smaller places. US dollars are accepted in some tourist spots but soles are better.

Opening times & connectivity

Shops open about 10 am and close by 7 or 8. Museums keep shorter hours. Free Wi-Fi at the terminal and many cafés. Spanish is the language; English is limited outside tourist areas. Emergency number is 105.

Accessibility & mobility

Do not walk outside the terminal. Use an approved taxi that can take a wheelchair. Ask the ship about the gangway and any shuttle. Name the Callao cruise terminal for the return.
