Getting ashore

Stamsund is a fishing village on the Lofoten islands. Ships use the harbour quay, and the village is a short walk away. Check your ship’s notice for the berth and tender arrangements.

Watch-outs

The Lofoten weather changes quickly, and winds can be strong. Shops and services are few, and many close early. Bring warm, windproof clothing.

The village

Stamsund is a working fishing harbour with traditional wooden buildings and a small church. The quay is the best place to see the boats and the fish being landed.

Lofoten islands

The islands have steep peaks, white beaches and fishing villages. Road trips and boat tours run from the harbour in season. Weather decides what runs on the day.

Food & shopping

Seafood is the main local food, including cod, Arctic char and stockfish. The harbour restaurants and cafés are the easiest choice. Bring snacks from the ship.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in the village.

Accessibility & mobility

The quay and the village are mostly flat, but the harbour can be wet and slippery. Boat trips involve gangways and steps. Ask your operator about accessible transport and vehicles.
