Getting ashore

Ships berth at Hovnes 1 and 2, each 80 metres long, or at the Holmen quay in the centre of town. Check your ship’s notice for the berth.

Watch-outs

Weather on the Helgeland coast changes quickly. Services are few on Sundays, and shops close early.

The town

Sandnessjøen is the main town of Alstahaug, with a modern centre, a harbour and a museum of local history.

Helgeland coast and islands

The coast has islands, mountains and birdlife, and boat trips run from the harbour in season. The Torghatten and the Vega islands are reached by road or ferry.

Food & shopping

Seafood is the main local food, including cod and king crab. Restaurants and cafés in the centre are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in town.

Accessibility & mobility

The quays and centre are mostly flat. Boat trips involve gangways. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
