Getting ashore
Ships dock about 900 metres from the town centre, a walk of about ten minutes along the harbour. Check your ship’s notice for the berth.
Watch-outs
Måløy is a small fishing town, and services are limited on Sundays. Weather on the Nordfjord changes quickly, so bring waterproofs. Winds can be strong on the open coast.
The town
Måløy sits on the island of Vågsøy, at the start of the Nordfjord. The harbour and fish market are the centre of town, and the views of the water and the islands are the main attraction.
Coastal landscape
The island has cliffs, beaches and walking trails. The coast is known for its birdlife, and boat trips from the harbour visit the islands and the fjord in season.
Nordfjord
The Nordfjord is one of Norway’s longest fjords. Boat trips and road trips go inland to the glaciers and the valleys, and both depend on the weather.
Food & shopping
Seafood is the main local food, including fresh fish and shellfish. Harbour cafés and restaurants are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in town.
Accessibility & mobility
The harbour and the town are mostly flat, but the walk from the quay is a little long. Boat trips involve gangways. Ask your operator about accessible vehicles.
