## Getting ashore

The main cruise quay, about 215 metres long, is in the city centre, within easy walking distance of the town. A second quay lies about 400 metres south. Check your ship's notice for the berth.

## Watch-outs

Harstad is a small Arctic town, and the weather changes quickly. Bring a windproof layer. Shops close early on Sundays, and some services are limited outside the summer season.

## The town

Harstad is the largest town in the Hålogaland region, with a compact centre, a harbour and a fine cultural centre. The Trondenes church and the Trondenes historical site are the main sights, reached by road from the town.

## Islands and mountains

The Hinnøya and Vesterålen islands are good for wildlife trips, including whale-watching and bird colonies. Local operators run tours from the harbour, and they depend on the weather.

## Food & shopping

Seafood is the speciality, from cod and king crab to smoked fish. The harbour restaurants are the easiest choice. Local shops sell crafts and knitwear.
