## Getting ashore

Hammerfest is the northernmost town in the world. The dock is within walking distance of the town, or at Fuglenes, about a mile away. Sometimes ships anchor and tender passengers to the town centre dock.

## Watch-outs

The town is small and very far north, so services are few and close early. The Arctic weather is cold and windy, even in summer. Bring warm, windproof clothing.

## The town

Hammerfest has a small museum, the Meridian Column marking the end of the arc of measurement, and the Kvalsund harbour views. The town centre is compact and walkable.

## Arctic light and the north

In summer the sun does not set, and in winter it does not rise. The changes are dramatic, and the town is good for seeing the light.

## Food & shopping

Seafood is the main local food, including king crab and Arctic char. Cafés in the town are the easiest choice.

The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in town.

## Accessibility & mobility

The town dock and centre are mostly flat, but the harbour can be wet. Tenders involve steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
