Getting ashore
Eidfjord Cruise Port opened in 2005 and sits in the centre of the village, at the innermost part of the Hardangerfjord. The sail-in is spectacular.
Watch-outs
The village is very small, with few services. Weather in the fjords is changeable, and the road routes are slow and winding. Plan your excursions with the return time in mind.
The village
Eidfjord is a small village with a church and a small museum. The Hardanger folk music and the traditional crafts are local speciality.
Vøringsfossen
Vøringsfossen , a 182-metre waterfall, is a short drive or bus ride up the valley. Viewing platforms overlook the falls, and it is one of Norway’s most visited sights.
Hardangervidda and the fjord
The Hardangervidda plateau is Europe’s largest mountain plateau, and boat trips and road tours cover the fjord and its orchards.
Food & shopping
Norwegian food includes cured salmon, lamb and cloudberry desserts. Local apple juice and cider from the Hardanger orchards are popular.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile signal is limited in the valleys.
Accessibility & mobility
The port and village are flat. Vøringsfossen has paved viewing paths, but the trails are steep. Ask your operator for accessible coaches.
