Getting ashore

The dock is within walking distance of the town, about one kilometre. Check your ship’s notice for the berth.

Watch-outs

Bodø lies just north of the Arctic Circle. In summer the midnight sun is visible, and in winter the light is short. Weather can change quickly, so bring layers.

The town

Bodø is a compact town with a harbour, cafés and the Norwegian Aviation Museum, which has a large collection of aircraft and a story of the Arctic air routes.

Saltstraumen

Saltstraumen is one of the strongest tidal currents in the world, about 30 km away. Boat trips and viewpoints show the whirlpools at the tide change.

Lofoten and the Arctic Circle

The Lofoten islands are reached by ferry from Bodø. The Arctic Circle Centre marks the line of latitude north of the town.

Food & shopping

Seafood is the main local food, including king crab, cod and smoked salmon. Cafés and harbour restaurants are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile signal is good in town.

Accessibility & mobility

The dock and the town are flat. Boat trips involve gangways. Ask your operator about accessible transport.
