Getting ashore

Berlevåg is a small fishing village in Finnmark, in the far north of Norway. Ships use the harbour quay, and the village centre is a short walk away. Check your ship’s notice for the berth and whether you will tender.

Watch-outs

Berlevåg is remote, with few shops and limited services. Weather in the Arctic changes fast, and winds can be strong. Dress in layers. Shops may close early, and Sunday is quiet.

The village

The village lives from fishing and the harbour. It has a small museum and a church, and the quay is the best place to see the boats come in. Walk along the harbour for the views.

Finnmark coast

The coast is open to the Barents Sea, with birdlife in summer and some of the best northern lights in winter. Boat trips from the harbour run when the weather allows.

Food & shopping

Seafood is the main local food, including cod, king crab and smoked fish. Eat at the harbour cafés or the hotels. Bring any items you need from the ship, as shops are limited.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in the village and patchy beyond it.

Accessibility & mobility

The quay and village are mostly flat, but the harbour area can be slippery. Boat trips involve gangways and steps. Ask your operator about accessible transport and boats.
