Getting ashore
Ships call at IJmuiden, a port on the North Sea coast about 30 minutes west of Amsterdam. Transfers into Amsterdam are by coach or train. Check your ship’s notice for the terminal.
Watch-outs
IJmuiden itself is industrial, so the port area has little to see on foot. Allow time for transfers and keep the return time clear.
Amsterdam by transfer
Amsterdam’s canals, museums and the Rijksmuseum are reached by train or coach. The train to Amsterdam Centraal is the quickest route.
Zandvoort and the beach
Zandvoort is a seaside resort nearby, with a long sandy beach, dunes and beach clubs, reached by bus or train.
Haarlem
Haarlem, a historic city with a cathedral and a pleasant centre, is a short train ride from IJmuiden.
Food & shopping
Dutch food includes herring, cheese and stroopwafels. Cafés in Haarlem and Zandvoort are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are common.
Accessibility & mobility
The terminal and the transfer coaches are step-accessible. Amsterdam's old canal streets have cobbles and bridges with steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
