Shuttle and tender arrangements are not known, so the cruise line will confirm the berth and any transfers before you sail. Details of a terminal building and the number of berths are not known either. Berths were added between 2014 and 2017 for cargo and a thermal power plant, as part of a national seaport plan for 2030, rather than for cruise traffic. Guests on longer tours travel by coach. The calendar, as of 19 October 2026, shows two Star Clippers calls ahead: Star Flyer on 9 November 2026 and Star Clipper on 16 November 2026, both Mondays. Calls can change, so check your itinerary before you sail."],["For walkers and architecture fans","Safi is one of Morocco's oldest cities, often linked to the ancient Carthaginian settlement of Carcunticus. The Portuguese ruled it from 1488 to 1541, and a sea-facing fortress was built in that time. Dar el Bahar, also spelt Dal el Bahar, is the building photographed most often in Safi. It is a small fortress in the old harbour, with an underground tunnel to the sea and a ramp down for a wider view of the water. Take the ramp down for the wider view. A visit is not complete without the Kechla, an old Portuguese prison. Local guides at the main sights can help with navigation and history. The town has about 310,000 residents, or more than 420,000 in the metro area, and most are Arab and Berber. A large Jewish community, about a fifth of the population, later emigrated to Canada, Israel and France. Safi Beach, at the northern end of town, has a surf school if you want a change of scene."],["For shoppers","The central medina is a traditional market where pottery is made and sold, including vases and plates that visitors like to buy. The Pottery Quarter, the Colline des Potiers, sits near the Bab Chaaba gate, where stalls sell the town's crafts. If a potter invites you to watch them work, a small purchase or a tip is the usual thanks. Shop opening hours are best checked on the day. Carry some cash for the pottery quarter and the market stalls, as they are the places where you are most likely to want it. The National Museum of Ceramics lies south-east of the medina and is open from 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Tuesdays. Its labels are in French and Arabic only, and the hours may change, so check before you go."],["For eaters and drinkers","Fresh seafood is common, and tagine, harira soup and couscous are the other local dishes to look for. Glass House, a caf\u00e9 in the Ville Nouvelle, serves ice cream and has internet access, and some hotels also offer Wi-Fi. Riad du P\u00eacheur, across from the fishing port, offers free breakfast, Wi-Fi and a rooftop terrace, and Riad Le Cheval Blanc sits inside the medina, handy for the old quarter. Hotel details, phone numbers and opening hours change, so confirm them before you visit."],["Getting around and money","Walking is the simplest way to reach the medina and the old harbour from the centre. The bus station is about 1.5 km south-east of the medina and serves several companies, including CTM. The ONCF railway station is in town, but the link to the rail operator's site no longer works. Safi has no airport. Casablanca lies north, Essaouira south and Marrakech east, each a road journey away, and Agadir is about 300 km off. Taxi fares are not known, so agree any price with the driver before you set off. The currency is the Moroccan dirham, with the code MAD, though check the code before you exchange money. It is not clear which shops, caf\u00e9s or taxis take cards, so carry some cash. Ask your phone provider about mobile data before you travel. Fares and details were last reported in early 2024, so confirm them before you go."]],"access":"The sources read do not describe step-free access, gangway arrangements or surfaces at the quay.
