## Getting ashore

Ships anchor in Loreto Bay, and passengers are brought ashore by the ship's tender to the Malecón, the town's pleasant boulevard.

## Watch-outs

The tender can be cancelled in windy weather. Loreto is hot, so carry water and sun cover. Taxis are limited outside the town.

## Loreto

Loreto, also known as Conchó, was the first Spanish mission in the Californias. The town is small and quiet, with a waterfront and a church.

## Mission San Javier

[Mission San Javier](https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Loreto_%28Mexico%29) is a historic mission in the mountains above the town. The drive is winding, and tours are the easiest way to visit.

## Bay and islands

Loreto Bay is a national marine park, with boat trips to the islands and the chance to see dolphins and whales in season.

## Food & shopping

Baja food includes fish tacos, shrimp and local cheese. The Malecón restaurants are the easiest choice, and the markets sell crafts.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Mexican peso. Cards are accepted in some places, and cash is needed for small purchases. Mobile signal is limited outside town.

## Accessibility & mobility

The Malecón is level, but the tender landing involves a step. The mission road is steep and rough. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles and boats.
