## Getting ashore

Ships dock at Puerto Pichilingue, about 10 miles from La Paz. Buses leave from Pichilingue to the Terminal Malecón in the town centre. Taxis are available, and the fare should be agreed before you set off.

## Watch-outs

La Paz is hot and dry, and the sun is strong. The bus trip into town takes about 30 minutes, and the buses can be crowded. Keep your return time in view, as the port is some distance from the centre.

## The Malecón

The Malecón is the long seafront promenade, lined with restaurants, sculptures and the sea. The sunset is popular, and the sea is calm on the bay side.

## Old town

La Paz has a compact old town with colonial buildings, the cathedral and the Plaza Constitución. The Museo de Antropología covers the region's history, including the cave paintings of the Sierra de San Francisco.

## Islands and sea life

Boat trips from La Paz visit Isla Espíritu Santo, a UNESCO site, and Balandra beach. The sea is famous for whale sharks and sea lions in season. Tours are weather-dependent.

## Food & shopping

Baja food includes fresh fish tacos, shrimp and local cheese. The Malecón restaurants are the easiest to reach, and the markets sell fresh produce and crafts.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Mexican peso. US dollars are accepted in some tourist places, but change is given in pesos. ATMs are in the centre.

## Accessibility & mobility

The port area is flat, but the distance from town makes the bus or taxi the main option. The Malecón is level. Boat trips and beaches involve steps and sand. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles and boats.
