## Getting ashore

Ships tender passengers ashore to the harbour, or berth at the quay near the city. Malé is tiny and walkable, and taxis are available for the rest of the island.

## Watch-outs

Malé is a conservative Muslim city. Dress modestly, with covered shoulders and knees, and do not bring alcohol ashore, as it is restricted for visitors. Friday is the day of rest, and many shops close midday.

## The city

Malé is one of the most densely populated places on earth, with the Grand Friday Mosque, the National Museum and the Sultan Park. Tall, colourful buildings line the narrow streets.

## Local market

The fish market is busy in the morning, with the day's tuna and reef fish. The Malé local market sells fruit, vegetables and crafts.

## Islands and resorts

Speedboats and ferries run to nearby islands and resorts. Bathurst Island and Hulhumalé are reached by boat or ferry.

## Food & shopping

Maldivian food includes garudhiya (fish soup), mas huni and roshi bread. Restaurants in the centre are the easiest choice.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the rufiyaa. US dollars and cards are accepted in many places, and ATMs are in the city.

## Accessibility & mobility

The city is flat but has narrow, uneven streets and steps. Ferries and speedboats have boarding steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
