Getting ashore

Ships dock at Fujiwara Pier, in an industrial area. Nothing of interest is within walking distance, so use the ship’s transport or a taxi.

Watch-outs

The Sanriku coast was badly hit by the 2011 tsunami, and recovery work is still visible. Check local information and respect the memorials.

Miyako City

Miyako is a fishing city in Iwate Prefecture, with a harbour and a fish market. The city is working to rebuild its waterfront.

Jodogahama

Jodogahama is a coastal area of small islands and rock formations, popular for its scenery and short walks.

Sanriku coast

The Sanriku Coast has ria (drowned valley) inlets, fishing villages and the Kitayama Sanriku coastal road.

Food & shopping

Sanriku food includes fresh uni (sea urchin), salmon and seaweed. Local fish restaurants in the harbour are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the yen. Cards are accepted in some places, and convenience-store ATMs accept most foreign cards.

Accessibility & mobility

The pier area is flat, but has little paved access. Jodogahama has paths and steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
