Getting ashore

Ships anchor offshore and passengers are tendered to Marina Piccola. Minibuses wait about five minutes’ walk to the right of the marina and take you up to the town centre for about one euro.

Watch-outs

The tender landing can be busy. The road up from the marina is steep, so the minibus is worth it. Sorrento is busy in summer, and the Amalfi coach trips leave early.

Piazza Tasso

Piazza Tasso is the main square, with cafés, the church of San Francesco and views over the bay to Vesuvius and Capri.

Amalfi Coast

Amalfi and Positano are reached by coach, ferry or the Sita bus. The coast road is winding and congested in summer, so a ferry is often faster.

Capri

Ferries and hydrofoils run from Marina Piccola to Capri, a short crossing. The Blue Grotto and the Anacapri lookout are popular, and boats leave in season.

Pompeii

Pompeii is a short train ride away from Sorrento. Tickets for the ruins sell out in peak season, so book ahead.

Food & shopping

Campania food includes buffalo mozzarella, lemon desserts and limoncello. Sorrento is known for inlaid woodwork and lemon products.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are in the town.

Accessibility & mobility

The tender landing and the marina steps are hard for anyone with limited mobility. The town is hilly with steep streets. Ask your ship about tender assistance, and use a taxi or minibus where possible.
