## Getting ashore

Ships berth at the port of Siracusa, close to the island of Ortigia, the old town. Check your ship's notice for the berth and any shuttle.

## Watch-outs

Siracusa is hot in summer, and the old town's stone streets reflect the heat. Sunday closures apply to some shops.

## Ortigia

The island of Ortigia is the historic heart of the city, with the Cathedral built into a Greek temple, baroque streets and the seafront Foro Vittorio Emanuele.

## Archaeological park

The [Neapolis Archaeological Park](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Neapolis+Archaeological+Park+Siracusa) has the large Greek theatre and the Ear of Dionysius, a cave with remarkable acoustics. Allow at least two hours.

## Day trips

Noto, a baroque town, and the Vendicari nature reserve are reached by car or tour. Etna is also within reach.

## Food & shopping

Sicilian food includes arancini, fresh seafood and pastries. The Ortigia market is busy in the morning.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are common in the town.

## Accessibility & mobility

The port and Ortigia are flat, but the old streets have cobbles and steps. The archaeological park has uneven paths. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
