Getting ashore
Ships berth at the port of Siracusa, close to the island of Ortigia, the old town. Check your ship’s notice for the berth and any shuttle.
Watch-outs
Siracusa is hot in summer, and the old town’s stone streets reflect the heat. Sunday closures apply to some shops.
Ortigia
The island of Ortigia is the historic heart of the city, with the Cathedral built into a Greek temple, baroque streets and the seafront Foro Vittorio Emanuele.
Archaeological park
The Neapolis Archaeological Park has the large Greek theatre and the Ear of Dionysius, a cave with remarkable acoustics. Allow at least two hours.
Day trips
Noto, a baroque town, and the Vendicari nature reserve are reached by car or tour. Etna is also within reach.
Food & shopping
Sicilian food includes arancini, fresh seafood and pastries. The Ortigia market is busy in the morning.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are common in the town.
Accessibility & mobility
The port and Ortigia are flat, but the old streets have cobbles and steps. The archaeological park has uneven paths. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
