## Getting ashore

Ships anchor off Portofino, and passengers are tendered into the harbour. The village is small and walkable.

Portofino is very expensive, and the harbour is crowded in summer. Tender times depend on the sea. Book restaurant tables in advance.

## The harbour

The painted harbour is lined with cafés and restaurants, with yachts moored in the bay. It is one of the most photographed harbours in Italy.

## Castello Brown and the lighthouse

[Castello Brown](https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Portofino) is a hilltop castle with gardens and views over the bay. The Punta del Faro path leads to the lighthouse and is a short but steep walk.

## San Fruttuoso

San Fruttuoso is a small bay with an abbey, reached by boat or by a steep walk. Boats run from Portofino in season.

## Genoa and the Riviera

Genoa is reached by train or bus, and the Cinque Terre is a longer trip by train.

## Food & shopping

Ligurian food is the speciality, including pesto, trofie pasta, focaccia and fresh seafood. Harbour restaurants are the easiest choice.
