## Getting ashore

Cruise ships berth at the [Stazione Marittima](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Stazione+Marittima+Molo+Angioino+Napoli) , on Molo Angioino. The passenger building is Terminal Napoli. You step off opposite [Piazza Municipio](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Piazza+Municipio+Naples+Italy) and [Castel Nuovo](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Castel+Nuovo+Naples+Italy) . ATMs, cafés, a tourist desk and toilets sit by the terminal. The square is across the road. You are beside the city, not in the shopping streets yet. Other passenger ships use other quays. Yours is the Stazione Marittima.

## Watch-outs

The lanes around [Piazza Municipio](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Piazza+Municipio+Naples+Italy) are busy. Pickpockets work these streets, so keep your bag in front of you. [Molo Beverello](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Molo+Beverello+Napoli) , beside the ship, is the hydrofoil quay. It is not the gate back to your gangway. Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi coast are not a walk from the ship. Traffic is slow. Allow plenty of time to get back.

## Getting into the city

The centre is about 10 minutes on foot. Walk past [Castel Nuovo](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Castel+Nuovo+Naples+Italy) from [Piazza Municipio](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Piazza+Municipio+Naples+Italy) . Metro [Line 1](https://www2.anm.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=71&Itemid=98) has an underpass to the Municipio Porto stop. Trains run about every 10 minutes until 20:00, then about every 14. A ride is about €1.50. A 90-minute ticket is about €1.90. Garibaldi is the stop for the central station. [Alibus](https://www2.anm.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1314&Itemid=373) also goes there from Molo Angioino, about every 15 minutes, from about 5:30 to about 23:35. Allow about 20 minutes. A single is about €5. The €1.90 ticket is not valid on Alibus. Stamp the ticket as you board. On Friday and Saturday the Porto exit closes at 22:00.

## Taxis & ride apps

Taxis from the port, [Molo Beverello](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Molo+Beverello+Napoli) and [Piazza Municipio](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Piazza+Municipio+Naples+Italy) use one set fare per cab. It covers the night, a holiday, bags and a radio call. Ask for that fare before the car moves. The meter should show F0.00. Tolls are extra. A minivan is about €5 more. The central station is about €15.50. The historic centre, inside the traffic limits, is about €11. Hotels on Via Partenope are about €10. The airport is about €24. [Uber](https://www.uber.com/it/en/r/cities/taxi/napoli-campania-it/) can call a local taxi in Naples, for up to 4 people. It does not show a port fare. On the way back, name Stazione Marittima or Molo Angioino.

## What to do nearby

For a short call, stay at [Piazza Municipio](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Piazza+Municipio+Naples+Italy) . [Castel Nuovo](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Castel+Nuovo+Naples+Italy) , also called the Maschio Angioino, stands on Via Vittorio Emanuele III, facing the sea. It is open Monday to Saturday, about 9:00 to 18:00. Last entry is about 17:30. It is closed on Sundays and on holidays, unless a notice says otherwise. A full ticket is about €10. Under-18s go free. You can pay by card. From the square, the Verso il mare walk goes toward [Borgo Orefici](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Borgo+Orefici+Naples+Italy) . [Galleria Umberto I](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Galleria+Umberto+I+Naples+Italy) is the covered shopping gallery a little further inland, near the opera house. This loop stays by the port.

## Going further

A one-way taxi from the port is priced per cab, if the driver takes the job. Pompeii excavations are about €70. The Vesuvius park is about €65. Sorrento is about €125. Positano is about €145. Amalfi is about €155. Ravello is about €160. Tolls are extra, and a minivan is about €5 more. You pay again for the ride back. Hydrofoils for Capri and the gulf leave from [Molo Beverello](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Molo+Beverello+Napoli) . Ferries leave from [Calata Porta di Massa](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Calata+Porta+di+Massa+Napoli) . Tell the driver which pier you want.

## Food & shopping

Pay in euros. Cards are usual in cafés and shops. Keep a few coins for the bus. A coffee, then a sfogliatella pastry, riccia or frolla, is the ordinary pause. Cafés for that are in the old centre and on [Riviera di Chiaia](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Riviera+di+Chiaia+Naples+Italy) , the waterfront west of the castle. [Via Chiaia](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Via+Chiaia+Naples+Italy) is the shopping street just past [Castel Nuovo](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Castel+Nuovo+Naples+Italy) . Smaller lanes run off it. A taxi from the port to [Teatro San Carlo](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Teatro+San+Carlo+Naples+Italy) , by the gallery, is about €11. For lunch, have pizza and sit down in these streets.

## Opening times & connectivity

Many shops open Monday to Saturday, about 8:00 to 13:00 and about 16:00 to 19:00. Some close on Saturday afternoon and on Monday morning. On Sunday, bars and restaurants are the ones most likely to be open. These hours are about the usual pattern. No quay Wi-Fi is listed. Cafés, especially near the central station, often share theirs if you buy a drink. Save your berth and a map on your phone before you leave the ship. Italian is the local language. English is spoken in the centre and by many drivers. For emergencies, call 112.

## Accessibility & mobility

The walk from the ship to Piazza Municipio is not a level route from every berth. The Carmine pedestrian gate opens on weekdays only, about 7:00 to 9:30 and about 17:00 to 18:30. Line 1 has signed step-free routes, Braille, and staff who can help inside the station. Ask the ship about the gangway. For town, book a taxi that can take a wheelchair, and give Stazione Marittima as the return address. A wheelchair, a pram and a guide dog are free of the extra charge. A short line on the map does not mean a flat path.
