Getting ashore
Ships call at Mytilene, the island’s capital, and passengers land at the port or by tender. The old town is close to the harbour.
Watch-outs
The island is large, and roads are winding. Buses are limited, so use taxis or tours. Shops close for the afternoon.
Mytilene
The town has the Byzantine and Ottoman castle above the harbour, the Theophilos Museum and the waterfront cafés.
Molyvos and the north
Molyvos is a picturesque village with a castle, cobbled lanes and the harbour, a short drive from the port.
Petra and the coast
Petra has the Church of Panagia Glykofilousa, and the coast has beaches and olive groves.
Food & shopping
Lesbian food includes ouzo, fresh seafood, and local cheese and olive oil. Tavernas by the harbour are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are in the main towns.
Accessibility & mobility
The port area is flat, but the castles and village lanes are steep with steps. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
