Getting ashore
Cruise ships are tendered into the centre of Hydra town, right on the harbour. There are no cars on the island, so everything is walked or carried.
Watch-outs
The town is steep, with stairs and donkeys on the paths. Wear good shoes. Water taxis and the donkey paths are the way around.
The harbour
The harbour is a horseshoe of mansions and cafés, with the iconic yacht and fishing boats. It is the island’s main attraction.
Monasteries and the hills
The Profitis Ilias monastery and the Ekklisia monastery are reached by steep walks, with views over the island.
Beaches
Mandraki and Kaminia are the nearest beaches, reached by water taxi or on foot.
Food & shopping
Greek island food includes fresh fish, grilled octopus and local cheese. Harbour tavernas are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are in the town.
Accessibility & mobility
The town has steep stairs and no cars, so the harbour and the lanes are hard for anyone with limited mobility. Ask your operator and ship about access before booking.
