## Getting ashore

The cruise terminal is near the town centre and provides tourist information and a souvenir shop. The terminal building has a historic early 20th-century interior, which is pleasant to see on arrival.

## Watch-outs

Cherbourg is a working port, and some ships tender from the outer harbour. Check your ship's notice for the terminal. Shops close for lunch.

## Cité de la Mer

The [Cité de la Mer](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Cit%C3%A9+de+la+Mer+Cherbourg) is a science and maritime centre, with the Titanic gallery and a submarine on display. Allow two to three hours.

## D-Day and the Normandy beaches

The Normandy beaches, Utah and Omaha, are about an hour away. Tours cover the landing sites, the cemeteries and the museums. Book a guided tour for the best context.

## Harbour and town

The harbour has the Napoleonic arsenal and the Église de la Trinité. The old streets near the harbour are quiet and pleasant to walk.

## Mont-Saint-Michel

Mont-Saint-Michel is about two hours by road. Tours from the port make it a long but worthwhile day.

Normandy food includes oysters, cider, Camembert and apple tarts. Restaurants on the harbour are the easiest choice.

The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are in the town.
