Getting ashore

Ships anchor in the bay below the town, and passengers are tendered to the harbour. The old town is on the cliffs above, reached by a steep stairway.

Watch-outs

The stairs up from the harbour are very steep, with over 180 steps. Take the time, and do not rush. Tender times depend on the wind.

Haute Ville

The upper town is a fortified medieval town on a limestone cliff, with the Genoese citadel, narrow streets and views across the Strait of Bonifacio to Sardinia.

Strait and the coast

Boat trips run through the strait and along the cliffs, with caves and the Grotte di Sdragonato. The Sardinian coast is visible from the top.

Food & shopping

Corsican food includes brocciu cheese, charcuterie and seafood. Restaurants in the lower town are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted in most places, and ATMs are in the town.

Accessibility & mobility

The stairs are very steep and not accessible for anyone with limited mobility. Tender landings involve a step. Ask your operator and ship about access before booking, and consider a boat tour of the cliffs instead.
