## Getting ashore

Ships berth at the Suva wharf, close to the city centre. The Municipal Market is a short walk, and taxis wait near the wharf. Check your ship's notice for the berth and any shuttle.

## Watch-outs

Suva is the busy capital of Fiji, with heavy traffic and crowded footpaths in the centre. Keep valuables close in the markets. Many shops close early on Sundays, and sun protection is essential.

## Municipal Market

The Suva Municipal Market is a large covered market with fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, spices and crafts. It is the best place to see daily life in the city and to buy local produce.

## Thurston Gardens and the museum

Thurston Gardens is a botanical garden in the centre, with old trees and a lily pond. The Fiji Museum is close by, with artefacts from across the islands, including a famous ceremonial whale's tooth.

## Colo-i-Suva Forest Park

[Colo-i-Suva](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Colo-i-Suva+Forest+Park) is a rainforest reserve about 20 minutes from the city, with walking trails, waterfalls and a swimming pool. A guide is useful on the trails.

## Levuka

Levuka, the former colonial capital on Ovalau, is a UNESCO World Heritage town. It is reached by ferry or flight, so it is a long day trip. Check the sailing times carefully.

## Food & shopping

Fijian and Indian food are both good value, including curries, roti and fresh fish. Kava is served in the evenings, and the markets sell fruit, crafts and kava root.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Fijian dollar. Cards are accepted in larger places, and cash is needed for markets and taxis. Mobile data is good in the city.

## Accessibility & mobility

The wharf and the centre are mostly flat, but pavements are uneven. The market has level floors in most areas. The forest park trails are steep and rough. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
