A more recent report says ships dock at the Denarau marina, with no tender detail. Expect a dock arrangement, but confirm the method with the ship. Denarau Island is privately owned, covers about 3 km\u00b2 and is linked to the mainland by a short causeway. Ships berth about 5 km northwest of Nadi town and 10 km west of Nadi Airport. Resort access is controlled at a bridge checkpoint staffed around the clock by private security. Port Denarau is the jumping-off point for the island resorts, and most passengers go straight into the resort area on arrival. Ask the ship about the boarding arrangement and any transfer to the resort centre, as step-free access to the marina, the terminal and the ferries is not clear."],["For beach lovers","The beaches around the resorts are muddy grey, as the resorts sit on mangrove-cleared land, and some have imported white sand. Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi is a brown sand beach about half a mile long. The Radisson is family-oriented, with a kids' club for children up to 12, and the Westin is popular with couples and includes a breakfast buffet. Allow more time than you expect for walks, as Fiji time is real and a short walk may take longer than a local expects."],["For walkers and architecture fans","Nadi is Fiji's third-largest town, with over 42,000 people, on Viti Levu's western coast. Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple is described as the largest Hindu shrine in the Southern Hemisphere. Momi Bay Battery Historic Park has guns and bunkers built in the Second World War against a possible Japanese invasion. Viseisei Village and the privately owned Waqadra Botanical Gardens are also nearby. One 2024 guide describes Nadi as not really an attractive town, but an interesting one. English is an official language and is widely spoken in tourist areas, and Fijian and Hindustani are also common."],["For nature and outdoor fans","Mt Victoria, Fiji's highest peak at 1,324 m, is a popular excursion with three native reserves. Big Bula Waterpark is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with entry at $99 for adults and $84 for children. The Denarau Golf and Racquet Club has a par-72 course, with water hazards on 15 of its 18 holes, plus tennis courts. Several hotels host free rotating Fijian dance and music performances, so ask at reception for the schedule. Spa Maya offers Ayurvedic treatments from $75 to $275."],["For shoppers","Port Denarau is the island's only shopping centre. It is mostly open-air, with souvenir shops, a small supermarket (Yees Xpressmart), a pharmacy (Denarau General Store) and a currency exchange. Souvenirs such as black pearls, bula T-shirts and wood carvings cost more here than in Nadi town. Shops in Port Denarau tend to stay open later and on Sundays. Across most of Fiji, shops open between 06:00 and 08:00 and close between 18:00 and 19:00 on weekdays, and on Saturday until 13:00. Sundays and public holidays are largely closed, apart from restaurants and essential shops. These hours were last reported in 2024, so check them locally."],["For eaters and drinkers","Hard Rock Cafe is open daily from 10:00 to 23:00, with happy hour from 15:00 to 18:00 and beers at $2. Nadina Authentic Fijian Restaurant, open daily from 10:00 to 23:00, is the pick for local food, with seafood, a kava ceremony and vegetarian options. Lulu Bar opens at 07:30. Restaurants in Port Denarau are somewhat pricey. Flavours of Fiji runs cooking classes Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 16:00, at $135 per adult or $180 with a market tour."],["Getting around and money","The drive from the island to Nadi town takes about 15 minutes, and up to 25 minutes from the airport. The Westbus is the only public transport, running between Denarau and Nadi for a flat $1. The Bula Bus loops round the resort and stops at the major hotels, with a day pass at $8 for adults, and children under 12 ride free. An older report gives about 9 FJD for an all-day Bula bus pass and about $10 for a taxi into Nadi, so check prices on the day. Regular ferries leave from Denarau for the Yasawa and Mamanuca island groups, run by Awesome Adventures Fiji and South Sea Cruises. The currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD), and many goods are priced in Australian, US or New Zealand dollars. A currency exchange is available in Port Denarau, and the Radisson Blu Resort offers free Wi-Fi."]],"access":"The sources read do not cover step-free access to the marina, the terminal or the ferries.
