Getting ashore
Ships anchor offshore, and passengers are tendered ashore by zodiac, which takes around 25 minutes. The tender pier is central, close to the town.
Watch-outs
The weather is cold, windy and changeable, so dress in layers and waterproofs. Tenders can be cancelled in rough seas. Shops and services are limited, and some close early.
Stanley
Stanley, formerly Port Stanley, is the capital, a small colourful town with the Christ Church Cathedral, the Falklands Museum and the Upland Goose sculptures.
Battlefields and history
The 1982 battlefields, and the memorials to the lost, are reached by road. Tours cover the sites with a guide.
Wildlife
Penguins, albatrosses and sea lions are found around the islands. Boat trips and coastal tours go to the colonies in season.
Food & shopping
Lamb, fish and local dishes are the main foods. The pubs and cafés in town are the easiest choice.
Money & connectivity
The Falkland pound is at parity with sterling, and sterling and cards are accepted in most places.
Accessibility & mobility
The tender landing is the main barrier. The town is flat, but the roads are unpaved in places. Ask your operator about accessible vehicles.
