Getting ashore
Ships dock at the Old City Harbour, about 500 metres from the city centre and one kilometre from the old town. You can walk up to the top and back down, though the slope is steep.
Watch-outs
The old town is on a hill, with cobbles and steps. Wear sturdy shoes, and check the opening times of the museums, which vary by season.
Old Town
Tallinn’s medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the town walls, towers and the Town Hall Square. The Gothic churches are close together.
Toompea and the views
Toompea is the upper town, with the Parliament, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the viewing platforms over the lower town and the harbour.
Kadriorg
Kadriorg Park has the Baroque palace built by Peter the Great, and the Kumu art museum is close by. It is a pleasant walk or tram ride from the centre.
Food & shopping
Estonian food includes black bread, smoked fish and pork dishes. Restaurants in the old town are the easiest choice, and the market by the harbour sells local produce.
Money & connectivity
The currency is the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Mobile data is good in the city.
Accessibility & mobility
The harbour is flat, but the old town is on a steep hill with cobbles. Kumu and Kadriorg are largely level. Ask your operator for accessible transport.
