Getting ashore

Ships dock at the Split cruise terminal in the centre of town. You walk off the pier into the waterfront. Diocletian’s Palace and the old town are a five-minute walk. The terminal has basic facilities. Some smaller ships still tender.

Watch-outs

The palace streets are stone, uneven and crowded when ships are in. Some lanes are steep or stepped. The waterfront walk is open to the sun. Taxis queue near the terminal. Agree the fare before you leave. Bring water for the old town.

Getting into Split

The old town and palace start right outside the terminal. No shuttle is needed. Local buses run from nearby stops for the beaches or Marjan hill. The train and bus stations are a short walk. Walking is the simplest way for the historic centre.

Taxis & ride apps

Taxis wait near the terminal. Short rides in town are about €5–10. Uber operates in Split. Agree the price or check the app. Name the Split cruise terminal for the return. Hourly hire is available for longer trips.

What to do nearby

Walk into Diocletian’s Palace. The cellars, cathedral and palace walls are the main sights. The Riva waterfront has cafés. These streets are compact but uneven underfoot. You can cover the centre without transport.

Going further

Marjan hill is a walk or short bus ride for views. Beaches south of town are reachable by bus. Trogir is a short bus or taxi ride. Island ferries leave from the nearby harbour. Arrange return times carefully.

Food & shopping

Cafés and restaurants line the Riva and palace streets. Markets sell fruit and local goods. Cards and euros work widely. Smaller stalls prefer cash.

Opening times & connectivity

Shops open about 9 or 10 and close for a midday break, reopening until 8. Many stay open when ships are in. Free Wi-Fi at cafés. Croatian is the language; English is widely spoken. Emergency number is 112.

Accessibility & mobility

The terminal to the palace is short and mostly flat. Inside the palace the ground is uneven stone with some steps. A wheelchair can manage the Riva but not every lane. Ask the ship about the gangway. Name the cruise terminal for any taxi.
