Getting ashore

Ships call at Puerto Natales, the gateway town for Patagonia’s Torres del Paine. The port is near the town centre, and taxis wait at the pier.

Watch-outs

Wind in Patagonia is very strong and can be cold even in summer. Bring layers, waterproofs and a hat. Cards are not accepted everywhere, so carry cash.

The town

Puerto Natales is a small, colourful town on the Last Hope Sound. The waterfront and the local museum are the main places to visit.

Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park is about two hours away by road. The towers, glaciers and lakes are the main sights, and day tours go in from the town.

Serrano Glacier and the fjords

Boat trips from the town visit the Serrano Glacier and the fjord channels, and the trips depend on the weather.

Food & shopping

Patagonian food includes lamb, king crab and calafate berry desserts. Restaurants in the town are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Chilean peso. Cash is needed. Mobile signal is limited outside the town.

Accessibility & mobility

The town is flat, but the park trails are rough and steep. Boat trips involve gangways. Ask your operator for accessible vehicles.
