## Getting ashore

Ships anchor off Hanga Roa, the island's only town, and tender passengers ashore. The town centre is close to the landing point.

## Watch-outs

The island is remote, and the sites are managed under Rapa Nui rules. Entry fees and a visitor card may apply to the archaeological sites. Cash is needed, as cards are rarely accepted outside town.

## Hanga Roa

Hanga Roa is the island's only town, with shops, cafés and the church of San Juan Bautista. It is a short walk from the landing.

## The moai

The island's moai statues stand at sites across the island. The quarry at Rano Raraku, where the statues were carved, is the best-known site. Guided tours are the best way to see the sites.

## Ahu Tahai and Ahu Akivi

Ahu Tahai is close to the town and has a moai and sunset views. Ahu Akivi has seven moai facing the sea, and it is a longer trip.

## Orongo and the coast

Orongo is a ceremonial village on the crater rim of Rano Kau, with views over the ocean. The coast has dive sites and beaches.

## Food & shopping

Rapa Nui food includes fresh fish, tuna and sweet potato. Local crafts and wood carvings are sold in the town.

## Money & connectivity

The currency is the Chilean peso. Cash is needed. Mobile signal is limited and there is little Wi-Fi outside the hotels.

## Accessibility & mobility

The landing is a rough tender or pier, and the town has uneven unpaved roads. The archaeological sites involve grass, uneven ground and steps. Ask your operator for accessible transport, as the sites are not easily reached in a wheelchair.
