Getting ashore

Ships anchor offshore and tender into George Town. The ride takes about 10–15 minutes. You land at the Royal Watler Terminal or the nearby North or South terminals. The main terminal has shops, restrooms and tour desks. Town starts right outside.

Watch-outs

Tender queues can be long when several ships are in. The walk into town is short and flat. Seven Mile Beach is not walkable. Shared taxis fill up; confirm the drop-off point. Driving is on the left. Bring water and sun cover for the beach.

Getting into George Town

The terminals sit in the centre of town. Shops, the museum and the waterfront are a few minutes on foot. No shuttle is needed for downtown. For the beach or Stingray City you need a taxi or tour.

Taxis & ride apps

Taxis and shared vans wait at the tender landings. Fares are regulated. A shared ride to Seven Mile Beach is about CI$20 for the car or US$5–8 per person. Confirm the price before you leave. No Uber. Name the Royal Watler Terminal for the return. Arrange a pickup time if the driver does not wait.

What to do nearby

Walk the harbour front and the main streets of George Town. The National Museum and Fort George remains are close. Duty-free shops line the waterfront. These are all on flat ground. Most passengers then take a taxi to the beach.

Going further

Seven Mile Beach is about 3 miles north, 10–15 minutes by taxi. Public Beach and Governor’s Beach have facilities. Stingray City is a boat trip that takes most of the morning. Hell and the turtle farm are short taxi stops on island tours.

Food & shopping

The terminal and waterfront have cafés and duty-free stores. Beach bars on Seven Mile Beach serve lunch and drinks. US dollars are widely accepted. Cayman Islands dollars are the local currency. Cards work in most places.

Opening times & connectivity

Shops open with the first tenders, usually by 9. Many close by 5. Free Wi-Fi at the terminal. English is the language. Emergency number is 911.

Accessibility & mobility

The tender and terminal are step-dependent. Downtown is flat. A beach day needs a taxi that can take a wheelchair. Ask the ship about tender access. Name the Royal Watler Terminal for the return.
