Getting ashore

Ships berth at the Saguenay port area. Chicoutimi, the main town, is a short ride away by shuttle or taxi. Check your ship’s notice for the berth and the shuttle times.

Watch-outs

The Saguenay area is a long way from the big cities, so services are limited on Sundays and evenings. Bring layers, as the fjord can be cool even in summer. French is the main language.

Chicoutimi

Chicoutimi is the main town, with the Musée du Fjord, which covers the fjord’s history and wildlife, and the historic Saint-Joseph district.

Saguenay fjord and Tadoussac

The Saguenay fjord is one of the deepest in North America. Boat trips from Tadoussac, at its mouth, run to see whales, including belugas and minke whales, in season. Tours are the best way to see them.

Food & shopping

Quebec food includes tourtière, poutine and maple products. Local cafés and bakeries are the easiest choice.

Money & connectivity

The currency is the Canadian dollar. Cards are accepted in most places. Mobile signal is good in the towns.

Accessibility & mobility

The port and town are flat. Whale-watching boats involve gangways and steps. Ask your operator about accessible vehicles and boats.
