## Getting ashore

A 2024 guide describes cruise ships docking in the centre of town, so the city is the first stop with no long transfer. Ask the cruise line about these arrangements before you book any tour. Shuttle and tender arrangements are not known, so check with the cruise line before the call. Ask about the gangway and landing arrangements before you plan the morning. The port sits on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Potengi River, and the seaport specialises in cold storage and in exporting fruit, shrimp and fish.

## For walkers and architecture fans

Forte dos Reis Magos is a 16th-century fortress in the water at Praia do Forte. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm, with entry at R$3, and is best reached by taxi or guided tour rather than walking alone from Praia do Forte. The Ponte Newton Navarro is a 1.8 km bridge over the Potengi River, visible from the fort. The Memorial Câmara Cascudo is free, and the Igreja de Santo Antônio, known as the Igreja do Galo, is on Rua Santo Antônio. The historic centre, in Cidade Alta and Ribeira, is worth a walk. The Parque das Dunas and the Alberto Maranhão Theatre are also listed.

## For beach lovers

Praia do Forte, Praia do Meio and Praia dos Artistas are city beaches near the centre. Ponta Negra is the most popular tourist beach. The fort is at Praia do Forte, so a beach stop and a fort visit can be combined. Beach kiosk chairs may be free if you buy something, or charged, for example R$15, so agree terms first. The coast here has dunes, lagoons and rocky plateaus, a rare mix, so a beach day can be paired with a dune visit.

## For nature and outdoor fans

Morro do Careca, the tallest dune in Natal, is near Ponta Negra. Genipabu, about 30 km away, has dunes, freshwater lagoons and buggy rides. Most visitors hire a buggy with a driver to see the coast north and south. A half-day buggy trip was given at R$240 for up to four passengers, a 2024 price that should be checked. Choose a licensed driver, since accidents involving unskilled drivers have occurred, and agree the price and route before setting off. Buggy rides cross sand and uneven ground along the dunes, so ask about accessibility before booking one.

## For eaters and drinkers

Ginga com tapioca is a typical beach food, and it is recommended from Redinha Public Market, which is crowded on Sundays, so go on another day. Camarões Restaurante is a shrimp specialist with long waits from about 6.30pm to 9pm, so plan an early evening meal. Mangai serves regional cuisine in Ponta Negra and Lagoa Nova, which suits a day after the dunes. Dolce Latte, a gelato shop on Rua Hernani Hugo Gomes, is open from 11am to 10.30pm, so it works well as a stop on an evening walk.

## For shoppers

The Alecrim farmers' market is open on Saturdays from 6am to 3pm. The Shopping de Artesanato Potiguar in Ponta Negra, near Morro do Careca, has about 164 shops selling local handicrafts, so it is the place for a wide choice in one visit. Most stores are open from 9am to 6pm, with an extended lunch break from about noon to 2pm, so plan shopping around it. The Alecrim market closes at 3pm on Saturdays, so go in the morning. Shops also close for the lunch break, so an early start helps.

## Getting around and money

The town is close to the ship, although no walking time is given. Uber and 99Taxi are available, and urban trains are cheap but do not reach the main sights. The city bus fare was R$4 in June 2021, a figure that is out of date. Greater Natal International Airport has many domestic and international flights. The currency is the Brazilian real (BRL), shown as R$. Use the XE link for current rates. Portuguese is spoken, and cafés offering free Wi-Fi are sparse. Card acceptance is not known, so carry some cash for smaller purchases. Many museums close on Mondays, and Brazilian public holidays may affect opening on the day of your call. Prices in listings date from 2021 to 2023, so treat them as a guide.

## Season and schedules

The schedule lists Seabourn Venture arriving at 07:00 and leaving at 17:00 on 19 October 2026, and arriving at 09:00 and leaving at 17:00 on 22 October 2026. The calendar runs through October 2028, with months in 2027 and 2028 listed, and each ship's link gives its full itinerary and fares. The schedule link from 2024 is out of date, so use the live page for current calls. The first listed call may fall on the day of the snapshot, so confirm the times before you plan.

## Accessibility & mobility

The archive says the ship docks in the centre of town, which reduces the distance to walk. The sources do not describe the gangway or the landing, and buggy rides cross sand and uneven ground along the dunes. Ask about accessibility before booking a buggy, and check the landing arrangements with the cruise line.
