Harvest Caye is Norwegian's private island in Belize, and it has its own pier, so this call is not a tender. You are ashore only because your ship is in. The walk from the gangway is the start of the day. There is no town on the other side of the pier. Your ship's note is the time you must be back."],["Watch-outs","You cannot treat this as a Belize city call. There is no taxi and no boat laid on to the mainland. The beach, the pool and the lagoon are in the sun. Take a hat and water. The aerial course is high and it is not a gentle stroll. If stairs and heights are a problem, stay at the pool and the beach. Locals staff the island, not only the ship's crew."],["Beach, pool and lagoon","The beach is about seven acres, beside a pool of about 15,000 square feet. Kayaks, paddleboards and canoes use a shallow lagoon. That is the easy water, and it is enough for a quiet day. Chairs are set out around the pool and the sand. You pay for a meal here, unlike some private islands where lunch is included. Budget for that before you leave the buffet on the ship."],["No taxis","There are no taxis and no mainland boat. Do not wait for a car at the pier. You walk. The island is small enough that the beach, the pool and the nature centre are the circuit. If the heat is too much, sit in the air-conditioned part of the bar rather than looking for a ride. There is nowhere off the island to go and still make the ship."],["What to do nearby","A nature centre is staffed by local people. It has boa constrictors, toucans, scarlet macaws and an enclosed butterfly garden. That is the stop if you want something other than the beach and you do not want the heights. It is on the island. Ask at the pier which path leads there, and how long they keep it open while the ship is alongside."],["Going further","The tall structure is the Flighthouse, about 130 feet. From it, zip lines run more than 3,000 feet, with suspension bridges and free-fall jumps, plus a ropes course on a platform in the lagoon. This is a paid activity, not a walk. Skip it if you are unsteady with heights. There is no trip inland from this pier. The hills you see on the mainland stay on the mainland."],["Food & shopping","LandShark Bar & Grill is the two-storey place by the pool. It has air-conditioned seats and an open-air side, and it serves burgers. You pay for the meal. The island was planned with five food and drink spots. Use the one you can see from the pool if you do not want a hunt in the heat. The port notes say the money used here is the US dollar. Cards may work. Carry some cash."],["Opening times & connectivity","The island opened in 2016 and it opens for Norwegian calls. It does not keep town hours. Your limit is the ship's all-aboard. No Wi-Fi is listed, so save the pier location before you go up to the Flighthouse. English is spoken. Belize dollars exist on the mainland. On this island the notes say you pay in US dollars.
